Birth Control Pill Information

One of the most popular methods of contraception, birth control pills are prescription tablets that are used for preventing pregnancy. In addition, some types of birth control pills are approved for treating acne, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and other conditions. Various types of birth control pills are available; combined pills contain an estrogen and a progestin, while progestin-only pills do not contain the estrogen hormone.

Birth control pills are taken by mouth every day, at the same time each day. Remembering to take your pill each day is very important, as skipping doses increases your risk of unintentional pregnancy. As with any medication, side effects are possible. Nausea, breast tenderness, and spotting between periods are some of the most commonly reported reactions to birth control pills.
