Leuprolide Acetate Depot Information

Leuprolide acetate depot (Lupron Depot®) is approved for the following uses:
  • Reducing symptoms of advanced prostate cancer
  • Managing symptoms of endometriosis (a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside the uterus)
  • Improving anemia before surgery for uterine fibroids (when used in combination with iron)
  • Treating precocious (early) puberty in children.
This medication works by slowing down or blocking the action of either testosterone or estrogen in the body, which helps to relieve symptoms of the conditions listed. It comes in the form of a powder that is mixed with a liquid right before use. The mixture is then injected into a muscle.
Prior to beginning treatment with leuprolide acetate depot, inform your healthcare provider about any other medical conditions you have, especially diabetes, osteoporosis, or epilepsy. In addition, tell your healthcare provider about any other drugs you are taking. This will help ensure the right treatment for your situation.
