Medroxyprogesterone Injection Information

Medroxyprogesterone intramuscular injection (Depo-Provera®) is a prescription medicine used for preventing pregnancy or relieving symptoms of kidney or endometrial cancer. It comes in liquid form and is injected into a muscle.
This synthetic form of progesterone works to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, thinning the lining of the uterus, and thickening the cervical mucus. It can also slow down the growth of cancer cells, helping to relieve cancer symptoms.
Before receiving this intramuscular injection, medroxyprogesterone's safety information should be discussed with your healthcare provider. This drug is not suitable for everyone, so your healthcare provider will need details on your medical history (such as if you have breast cancer, seizures, or heart disease) to make sure this product is right for you. It's also important to tell your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including nonprescription products.
