Phendimetrazine Tartrate for Weight Loss

If you are obese and trying to lose weight, your healthcare provider may recommend a drug called phendimetrazine tartrate (Bontril®) as a short-term solution. This medication is chemically related to amphetamines. It works by suppressing the appetite and possibly increasing metabolism.
Only very short studies have evaluated the effectiveness of drugs like phendimetrazine. Although people taking these medications lost more weight than those who were not taking them, the difference was small (only a fraction of a pound more per week for the people taking the medications).
To get the most out of phendimetrazine, it should be combined with an appropriate diet. It is not meant to be used without dieting. Insomnia, headaches, and dizziness are some of the most common side effects.
