Yaz Warnings and Precautions

Before using Yaz, warnings and precautions for the hormonal contraceptive should be understood. For example, you should be aware of the possible risk of developing blood clots, an increased risk of liver tumors, and possible drug interactions. Yaz warnings and precautions also extend to people with certain medical conditions (such as diabetes or high cholesterol), as well as women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Yaz: What Should I Tell My Healthcare Provider?

You should talk with your healthcare provider prior to using Yaz^® (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol) if you have:

Adrenal insufficiency
High blood pressure (hypertension)
Diabetes
Migraines
Cancer (or if you have had cancer in the past)
Yellowing of the whites of the eyes or skin during a prior pregnancy or oral contraceptive use
Gallbladder disease
High cholesterol
Depression
Had a blood clot or a clotting disorder
Chest pain
Had a heart attack or stroke
Unexplained vaginal bleeding
Liver disease, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver tumors
Problems with your heart valves
Kidney disease, such as kidney failure (renal failure).

Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:

Have an upcoming surgery
Smoke cigarettes
Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant
Are breastfeeding.

You should also be sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medicines you are taking, including prescription and non-prescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
